Sri Aurobindo Dental College Conducts Dental Health Camp at District Jail Dewas

Sri Aurobindo Dental College & P.G. Institute, Indore, conducted a dental health camp at District Jail Dewas with the objective of addressing the dental health needs of inmates and providing them with timely consultation and treatment. The camp was organised by the Department of Public Health Dentistry as part of the institution’s healthcare outreach efforts.
Held on 12 September 2026, the camp provided dental screening and consultation to inmates at the jail premises. A total of 63 inmates underwent dental OPD examinations, during which dentists assessed their oral health and identified concerns related to teeth and gums. Of the prisoners evaluated in the clinical study, 14 prisoners were found in need of dental services.
While examining and providing treatment to prisoners, the dental staff was also promoting dental hygiene and its maintenance to prisoners by discussing regular and proper brushing, the maintenance of oral hygiene in general and the deleterious effects of tobacco and tobacco products (gutka), for the promotion of good health in prisoners and their personal well being.
This dental clinic and camp would not have been as successful as it was, were it not for the participation of jail Superintendent Mr. Vidya Bhushan Prasad and the staff at the District Jail of Dewas.
The initiative reflects Sri Aurobindo Hospital and its associated healthcare institutions’ commitment to extending essential healthcare services beyond the hospital setting. Such outreach programmes provide an opportunity to address healthcare needs among underserved and institutionalised populations while promoting awareness about preventive health practices.
The Sri Aurobindo Dental College team expressed its gratitude to the District Jail administration and the entire jail staff for their valuable cooperation and support in making the dental health camp successful.
