World inflammatory bowel diseases day was celebrated on 19th May 2024 by the Department of Gastroenterology, Dr. Mohd. Talha Noor (Prof. & Head of Dept. ) and his team discussed and introduced this disease to the patients and made them aware of the fight against inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). A team of specialists will be on-hand throughout the day to discuss these chronic diseases with patients and their families, and to introduce them to the latest in diagnosis and treatment.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) refers to a group of disorders that affect the intestines. IBD includes Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, which are chronic conditions that cause inflammation in the digestive tract. IBD can lead to pain, diarrhoea, fatigue, and weight loss. Symptoms vary and include abdominal pain, fatigue, diarrhoea, and sometimes bloody stools. Although the exact causes of IBD are still unknown, advancements are being made in treatments that can help patients manage their symptoms. World IBD Day provides an opportunity to honor and support those living with IBD while also advocating for better medical care, resources, and understanding of the condition.
