Oral Pathology is a core subject, the link between basic science and clinical dentistry. The Department deals with teaching the subject of Dental Anatomy, Embryology and Oral Histology for First BDS, Oral Pathology and Microbiology for the third year BDS and training the post graduate students in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology. The spacious department has a preclinical lab facility which is equipped with monocular and binocular light microscopes, study models & posters with a seating capacity for 100 students.

The students are trained to acquire basic skills in wax tooth carving, study of normal oral tissues and their related pathological lesions through slides, tooth anomalies/ polymorphisms through tooth specimens and plaster casts; identification of deciduous & permanent teeth and age estimation with the help of casts & models. To facilitate research the department has a stereomicroscope, research microscope with polarizing, dark field, phase contrast attachments, image analysis software and a camera.

It also has a clinical, hematological and histochemical laboratory which provides comprehensive diagnostic service for biopsy and cytological submissions. The department conducts collaboration activities with other departments to provide a wider horizon for students to understand the subject. The staff works to be a facilitator & guide rather than just teachers.
